It's after Thanksgiving and the pumpkin pie is gone but have no fear, I've thought ahead to this moment and purchased these cute Wilton Autumn Leaves cupcake cups in advance, knowing we'd need a quick replacement for pie. I have an interesting recipe for pumpkin cupcakes and was excited to use these baking cups for a nice visual flair. The recipe I was following called for baking the cupcakes at 350 degrees F, which is pretty standard for cupcakes. I poured the batter into the baking cups and placed them in the oven for a 16-18 min bake. After about three minutes I noticed a burning smell, almost like plastic. As much as I hate opening an oven during baking, I just had to see what was going on. After only three minutes, the upper edges of the cups were singeing. I immediately looked at the outside of the Wilton box to make sure the cups were indeed intended for actual baking. The box said "yes" (it actually spoke to me ... LOL), and I continued with the baking although the smell got worse. I expected flames to shoot out at any moment, but fortunately the cupcakes finished and they are now cooling. Each cup is slightly burned at various upper edges and this is not going to be as attractive as I'd hoped. I'm giving two stars because the baking cups are still serviceable and did not catch fire in my oven.
